Please join us for a forum exploring the role of government in promoting the use of renewable technologies as we make the transition from fossil fuels to a renewable energy based economy.

Robert E. Knoer, Esq. comes to us with broad range of expertise in the field of environmental law. Mr. Knoer taught “Law and the Environment” at the State University of Buffalo from 1992 to 2007. He will cover “Opportunities for Local Governments to Use Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency: Addressing the Cost of Government”.

Jessica Miller is an urban planning graduate student at the State University of Buffalo. She will talk about her experience developing ordinance guidelines for solar and wind installations for the city of Erie, PA.

Bill Nowak, Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Policy Research for New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson, will brief us on Senator Thompson’s “Ten-Point Green Jobs Strategy.  In the process he will bring us up to date on energy legislation passed in 2009, as well as current energy legislation before the Senate.

The WNYSEAT has announced a new chair for 2010, Elizabeth Nichols, architect.  

Ms. Nichols has organized the 'Tour of Solar Homes and Green Buildings' of Western New York in 2007 and 2009 and tours of local buildings utilizing alternative energy technologies for attendees at the American Solar Energy Society's National Conference in Buffalo.  As part of the WNYSEAT Speakers Series, Elizabeth organized a presentation on the use of geothermal energy in the restoration of The Church (a.k.a. Babeville)  

The WNYSEAT welcomes the Wind Action Group under its umbrella organization to better collaborate on individual and community-wide energy conservation efforts as well as to promote more efficient and effective use of alternative energy technologies to reduce our region's 'carbon footprint'.

The WNYSEAT welcomes three new trustees, Robert Knoerr, Terry Yonker and Robert Berger of the Wind Action Group to join continuing trustees, Joan Bozer, Walter Simpson, Paul Reitan and Elizabeth NIchols.

While state energy plans traditionally address many concerns, the overriding focus of this state energy plan should be global climate change and how responding to it can substantially rebuild New York’s flagging economy through the creation of tens of thousands of green jobs in the sustainable energy sector.
